The establishment of a pest control program should take into consideration its economical and technical viability, feasibility, and its capacity of continuous improvement. The program design should aim for a final product with great quality and safety, during all phases of the production process. The control of citrus leprosis should be made based on information of the incidence and severity of the disease in the orchard. This work presents a review and discussion about different factors involved in citrus leprosis control. Furthermore, additional strategies are suggested for the reduction of the virus inoculum within orchards, breaking the cycle mite-plant-virus and thus permitting the reduction in acaricide usage.
