Abstract

The preliminary analysis and diagnosis of the determinants for the development of surrounding areas of San Francisco Playon, Northwest of Ecuador is the result of  the research project entitled, ‘Characterization of the Management Services to Promote the Security Control in the Peasant Organizations of the Playon at the Ecuatorian Colombo Border Zone’, with the collaboration of the professors and academic volunteers of the Universidad Técnica del Norte (UTN). As methodology, it was used a descriptive model with the participation of 25 randomly selected participants capable of outline the developed activities in the sector such as: qualification in the level of production and income generation; the peasant opinion and views on natural wealth/resources; public dissemination of the resources that can lead to an exuberant productive vegetation. All these associated factors have shed light on the ways for promoting and developing community tourism. The data analysis collected in the surveys has revealed existing weaknesses on the control mechanisms that might encourage the diffusion of tourism resources. Forty-four per cent of the respondents indicated the need of improvements for the sector, as well as elaboration of plans for tourism and production development. Fifty-six per cent of the participants showed interests in attending technical training for getting knowledge and capacity regarding sectorial development activities; it is a type of development with the support of control tools aiming to achieve a better peasant action and the implementation of government policies to the rural areas.
