Abstract

Currently, the term e-learning has become popular as a learning tool that adapts to the needs of many university careers, including dentistry. And one way to implement it is using videos for educational purposes. The goal of this research is to know the perception of the students in relation to the use of videos to facilitate the development of clinical psychomotor skills in the Periodontics course of the Dentistry career at the Latin American University of Science and Technology. For this, 4 videos were provided to students of the Periodontics course. These were three videos on simulation models and one on a real patient. The students had to watch the videos before and during the lab. In addition, the instructor was conducting a demonstration in the laboratory. A week later, the students recorded themselves performing the procedure and uploaded that video to the Blackboard Learn platform for evaluation and auto evaluation. At the end of the course, the students answered a questionnaire. A total of 28 students participated. The results in relation to the use of videos to support learning presented 96.4% positive responses. These results are related to the students' qualifications, since in the practical sessions the minimum registered qualification was 85. In conclusion, the videos constitute a complementary means for the teaching of psychomotor clinical skills. However, the live demo cannot be substituted at all.
