Abstract

The aim of this literature review is to explore the relevance of MRI in the diagnosis of TMD, using the QUADAS protocol. The PubMed electronic database was used. Two reviewers evaluated the articles found based on the established inclusion criteria, ending with the development of an analysis table which included all the articles. Were selected 9 articles according to the inclusion criteria, which showed great consistency between the objective, the methodology and the results obtained. It is difficult to infatuate the levels of effectiveness when using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) because each of the studies implemented different study designs, with this evidence. MRI is a necessary tool for the diagnosis and evaluation of TTM treatment; however, few publications systematically report and evaluate its quality.
