Resumen

La reabsorción radicular es un efecto indeseado que ocurre secundario a los procesos inflamatorios que median el movimiento dental durante los tratamientos de ortodoncia. Actualmente existen distintos tratamientos para abordar las maloclusiones dentales y cada uno posee un riesgo potencial de provocar acortamientos radiculares en los pacientes. La presente revisión de literatura analiza evidencia científica actualizada sobre el efecto que los distintos tratamientos tienen sobre los ápices radiculares, así como los posibles factores externos que pueden predisponer a acortamientos radiculares utilizando como medio diagnóstico la tomografía computarizada de haz cónico.

Abstract

Root resorption is an unwanted effect that occurs secondary to the inflammatory processes that mediate tooth movement during orthodontic treatments. Currently there are different treatments to address dental malocclusions and each one has a potential risk of provoking root shortening in patients. The present literature review analyzes updated scientific evidence on the effect that different treatments have on the root tips, as well as the possible external factors that can predispose to root shortening using cone beam computed tomography as a diagnostic tool.
