Apesar de ainda restrita às regiões Norte e Noroeste paulistas, a morte súbita dos citros (MSC) tem grande importância econômica na citricultura. Caracterizada por ser uma doença de combinação copa-porta-enxerto, de provável origem viral, a doença pode levar rapidamente à morte das plantas afetadas. Com o objetivo de selecionar novos porta-enxertos resistentes ou tolerantes à doença, 111 híbridos de Citrus sunki vs. Poncirus trifoliata cv. Rubidoux estão sendo avaliados no município de Colômbia (SP). Até o momento, o sintoma mais característico da MSC, o amarelecimento do câmbio na região da enxertia, não se observou nas plantas com quatro anos de idade. Selecionaram-se 37 híbridos, alguns apresentando boa produtividade (cerca de duas caixas de 40,8 kg/planta), compatibilidade com a variedade copa de laranja Pêra e tolerância à seca comparável à do limão Cravo.

Although the Citrus Sudden Death (CSD) disease is still restricted to the north and northwest areas of the State of São Paulo, it shows a great economical impact on citrus industry. Characterized as a disease of rootstock/scion combination, probably from viral origin, it causes a general, and usually quick, decline of the tree. With the objective of selecting new rootstocks, 111 hybrids of Citrus sunki vs. Poncirus trifoliata cv. Rubidoux have been evaluated in the municipal district of Colombia (SP). So far, the most characteristic symptom of the Citrus Sudden Death, a yellow stain in the bark in the grafting region of the trunk, has not been found in the four-year-old plants. Thirty seven hybrids that showed good productivity (2 box of 40.8 kg/plant), grafting compatibility with Pêra sweet orange and tolerance to drought (as compared to Rangpur lime) were selected.
