Abstract

In spite of its prominent position in the production and international trade, citriculture in São Paulo State, Brazil, has faced many sanitary problems, which are the most serious obstacles to its continuity. Solutions to such problems have been found through a strong articulation among the public sector, represented by financing agencies, universities, and research institutes, along with members of the production force. The appearance of CVC and its spread in São Paulo orchards have forced the generation and diffusion of new techniques for the production of budwoods and healthy citrus nursery trees led by an inter-institutional network, and coordinated by the “Centro APTA Citros Sylvio Moreira”. The introduction of such techniques represents an inflection point in São Paulo’s citriculture resulting in a new pattern of modernization and professionalization of the industry, and causing an undoubted improvement of sanitary quality and production efficiency.
