Abstract
Objective: To describe risks and vulnerabilities of patients and interventions by nurses for patients with neurogenic bladder using intermittent urinary catheterization.
Methods: Study carried out in the rehabilitation center of a university hospital in a city in the state of São Paulo in two phases. Phase 1: descriptive study carried out from November 2011 to February 2013 with patients using intermittent urinary catheterization. Phase 2: case studies of implementation of nursing interventions with these patients.
Results: Phase 1 consisted of data collection on 168 patients. In phase 2, the following healthcare and educational practices were carried out: staff qualification, educational groups with patients, distribution of bladder diaries, assistance in obtaining materials, simulated practice, and telenursing.
