O trabalho se divide em três temas centrais: a conceituação sobre a História, a metodologia para a sua pesquisa e reflexões finais. A conceituação trata da importância da História, sua relação com o presente e o futuro e sua evolução no tempo.Algumas considerações sobre o historiador são feitas: sua formação, sua habilidade e suas virtudes. Também são analisados a história das profissões e os diferentes enfoques usados por seus autores. De forma mais detalhada apresentam-se, ainda, as técnicas de coleta, organização e análise de informações, dedicando uma parte especial às técnicas biográficas ou histórias de vida e a algumas experiências da autora em pesquisa histórica. As reflexões finais giram ao redor de considerações de ordem conceituai quanto à história das profissões e da Enfermagem, em particular.

This paper is divided into three main topics: a History conceptualization, the methodology for its research and final reflections. In the first part, topics such as the importance of History, its relation with the present and the future and its evolution in time are approached. The author also makes some considerations about the historian's education, his skills and virtues and completes this part analysing the history of the professions and the different approaches used by their authors. The topic that appears in a more detailed way focuses on the techniques of collecting, organizing and analysing information, devoting a special part to the biographical techniques or life stories as well as some experiences had by the author in historical researches in nursing. The final reflections are about some conceptual considerations regarding the history of the professions in general, and nursing, in particular.
