O estudo trata de apresentar questões referentes à categoria trabalho, de forma geral, e ao trabalho de enfermeira, de forma específica, principalmente no seu contexto de sofrimento e prazer, através de seu estudo pelas Representações Sociais, como preconizadas por Jodelet e Moscovici. Muitos estudos de enfermagem, em especial as teses e dissertações de pós-graduação, focalizam-se na contextualização do objeto de estudo. Geralmente, o mundo do trabalho deixa de ser contextualizado no objeto, escolhido em decorrência da prática da enfermeira. Esse esquecimento pode ocorrer pelo desconhecimento das enfermeiras. Este artigo destaca a possibilidade de investigar as características do trabalho, seu surgimento e como as enfermeiras o representam. Então, ressalta a realização de estudos nesta área, para oferecer maior compreensão sobre trabalho, emprego, desemprego e globalização. Ainda, destaca as representações como produtivas para estudar o sofrimento e o prazer implícitos no trabalho da enfermeira.

The study presents issues related to the work category, in general, as well as to the nurse's work, in particular, especially with regard to the contexts of suffering and pleasure, based on the Social Representations Theory proposed by Jodelet and Moscovici. Several nursing investigations, particularly graduate dissertations and theses, focus on the context of the object of study. Usually, the world of work is not included in the context of the object, which is determined by nursing practice. Such omission may derive from nurses' ignorance. This article highlights the possibility of investigating the characteristics of the nurses' work, how it began and how nurses represent it. Furthermore, it stresses the existence of studies in this field, in order to ofter a more extensive comprehension about work, employment, unemployment and globalization. Still, it emphasizes that representations are productive for the study of suffering and pleasure, implied in nurse's work.
