Can Christians and Politics Interact?

Can Christians and Politics Interact?

A Biblical Call to Wisdom and Action

By Pastor Priscila Fagundes

Introduction: The Knowledge That Sets Free

> “Without a deep knowledge of the Word, the Christian becomes easy prey: either manipulated by empty ideologies or living as a religious person without discernment. Biblical ignorance weakens faith and impoverishes the mission.”

— Priscila Fagundes

I always tell my students that knowledge is power. The fastest and most effective way to enslave a person—or an entire people—is to deny them access to knowledge, destroy their references, and prevent the truth from being taught. Do you remember the study of Ecclesiastes 10, the wise and the foolish? Well, this is part 2 of our study and the conclusion of a detailed biblical analysis that dismantles the ideology claiming that Christians cannot engage in politics—an idea inconsistent with what the Bible says about Israel’s leaders, whether legal, monarchical, political, civil, or religious.

My desire is for you to open your Bible and walk through this study with it in your hands, so that you may not only read its pages but be visited by the Author and have your understanding enlightened.

THE CHRISTIAN, POLITICS, AND THE TWO REALMS

> “The Christian who ignores the laws around them—natural or spiritual—becomes vulnerable, manipulable, and shallow. Biblical knowledge is both shield and sword against any system.”

— Priscila Fagundes

We live within two realms: the natural and the spiritual. Both are governed by laws, structures, and established authorities. Christians must discern this clearly so they are not at the mercy of ideologies or spiritual ignorance.

The Bible is not just a salvation manual — it is a book of government, authority, law, and dominion. It contains civil, moral, monarchical, ritualistic, and spiritual laws. From Genesis to Revelation, we see God establishing order through princes, kings, judges, and prophets—figures who often operated in both spiritual and political spheres.

📜 Moses was a prince in Egypt and then a political and spiritual leader of Israel.

🏛️ Joseph became governor in Egypt, exercising justice with divine wisdom.

👑 Daniel was a statesman in Babylon, faithful to God and influential in royal courts.

📚 Ezra was a scribe and advisor in the king’s palace.

⚖️ Deborah was a judge in Israel, leading with courage and discernment.

⚔️ Barak was a military commander who followed prophetic guidance.

And many others: Nehemiah, Esther, Solomon, David, Zerubbabel, Jehoshaphat, Hezekiah...

These examples show that governing with wisdom, justice, and the fear of the Lord is part of God’s calling—and Christians cannot ignore this.

Today, many believers have deep faith but shallow political understanding. That’s dangerous. Those who don’t grasp the structure around them—natural or spiritual—end up being manipulated by the masses, the media, culture, and systems trying to silence God’s truth.

This study is not just about politics—it’s about spiritual intelligence, biblical maturity, and Kingdom awareness.

> “The Christian who does not know the Scriptures deeply will either be manipulated or live as a spiritual parasite. Without the Bible, even the most religious can be deceived.”

— Priscila Fagundes

BIBLICAL MODELS OF SPIRITUAL-POLITICAL LEADERSHIP

1. Moses: Divine Legislator and Political Strategist

Raised in Pharaoh’s palace, trained in the highest levels of Egyptian politics.

Spiritually: Prophet and mediator of the Law (Exodus 3:10).

Politically: Leader of a nation, organizer of systems of governance and justice.

Lesson: God’s law is for more than just the temple—it belongs in the public square.

2. Deborah: Judge-Prophetess in a Time of Crisis

Spiritually: Prophetess, spiritual authority (Judges 4:4–5).

Politically: Supreme judge and military strategist of Israel (Judges 4:6–7).

Lesson: True spiritual authority empowers courageous and strategic political leadership.

3. Joseph: Faithful Administrator in a Foreign Land

Spiritually: Interpreted dreams, remained faithful under pressure.

Politically: Second-in-command in Egypt, created an economic plan to save nations (Genesis 41).

Lesson: Faith and competence can thrive even in pagan systems.

4. Daniel, Nehemiah, and Esther

Daniel: Integrity in two empires. Faithful under pressure (Daniel 6).

Nehemiah: Strategic planner and governor who rebuilt Jerusalem (Nehemiah 2).

Esther: Courageous queen who risked her life to save her people (Esther 4).

A CALL TO ACTIVE WISDOM

The Bible doesn’t just allow Christians to engage with political issues—it requires it.

A biblically literate pastorate is essential. The role of spiritual leaders includes equipping the Church with discernment on ethical, social, and political issues without falling into blind partisanship.

> “Without the Bible, it’s easy to fool even the most religious. A Christian who lacks deep biblical understanding will either be manipulated or live as a spiritual parasite.”

— Priscila Fagundes

Politics today is filled with manipulation and ideological idolatry. Many believers walk into it unprepared, without theological clarity, making them easy targets for deceptive systems.

The Bible is not neutral—it presents monarchy, theocracy, civil and ritual law, judgment, and kingship. True government begins at God’s throne, and every earthly authority should submit to Heaven’s justice.

We will now explore Ecclesiastes 10:1–15 through biblical exegesis and hermeneutics to understand how God views rulers—wise or foolish—and what it means to govern justly.

> If you’re a Christian, know this: If you don’t build your political worldview on Scripture, the world will build it for you—with ideas far from Christ.

Get ready to confront ideas, break paradigms, and align your understanding with the Kingdom.
